Simple Things™

Simple Things is a charity we’ve founded to raise money for poorer women battling breast cancer. Often, they need simple things, like rent, cab fares to the clinic, shoes for their kids or money to make Christmas a holiday. To them, the littlest and simplest of things can make a big difference in the quality of life.

Our first annual benefit in February 2004 raised over $10,000.
Grants have been given to needy recipients.

Some of the powerful stories of our first Simple Things recipients are....

•Due to the sudden death of her child, and the cost of the funeral, one embattled woman fell behind in her bills.  She has five other children to care for and with the cold New England winter, her heating bills were off the dial.  Thanks to Simple Things, she is catching up.

•A grandmother who is in her seventies, thanks to Simple Things, was able to pay for her rent and costly prescription drugs. Caring for 3 children and battling cancer, she lost her rent subsidy.  She was living on $741 a month, half of which had to pay for meds.

•A woman battling breast cancer since December 2002, is seeking alternative methods of treatment.  She is unemployed and has moved in with a friend.  In the midst of all of her trials, she continues to reach out to others to keep them encouraged.

•After losing her mother to breast cancer in December 2002, a young woman discovered recently that she also has breast cancer.  Her fiancé proposed to her the day before the diagnosis.  Even with the diagnosis, the couple has gone ahead to plan a simple wedding and reception.

•A brave woman is seeking second opinions in another state to help battle her reoccurring breast cancer.  Simple Things helped to defray the costs of childcare for her seven-year-old daughter.

•A mother of three young children is in pain most of the day.  She needs childcare and Simple Things is helping to pay for it.
